Bank of Ireland announces £450m profits

The Bank of Ireland has announced that it made £450 million profit in the six months to the end of September. The increase is a marginal one compared to the same period last year.

On RTÉ radio, the Chief Executive of the bank, Maurice Keane, was upbeat on the prospects for the Irish economy in the next year saying the fundamentals were right.

The bank says that except for some exceptional circumstances the profits would have been higher. During the six months, lending by the bank increased by 12% with strong growth in mortgage lending.
