Robinson issues warning on anti-terrorism moves

The United Nations Human Rights High Commissioner has warned governments against using the threat of terrorism as an excuse to interfere with individual rights.

In a report to the UN General Assembly Mary Robinson said all States must co-operate against terrorism, provided that such actions were not used as a pretext to infringe on human rights.

She said the best tribute that nations could pay to the victims of terrorism was to ensure that justice, not revenge, was served.
