An Israeli helicopter missile strike has killed a senior member of the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, in the West Bank city of Hebron. Jamil Jadallah, accused of killing Jewish settlers, was killed when Israeli missiles hit a house he was in.
Meanwhlie, the Israeli Foreign Minister has said he intends to submit new Middle East proposals to Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon.
Shimon Peres refused to confirm a newspaper report that his plan included the dismantling of Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip, a proposal which Mr Sharon has strongly opposed in the past.
Mr Sharon is also reported to object to a meeting apparently planned by Mr Peres with the Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, during an economic conference on the Spanish island of Majorca at the weekend.
