A second postal worker in the state of New Jersey tested positive for anthrax. It brings to eight the number of confirmed cases of the disease in the United States to date.
Earlier, an employee of the New York Post also tested positive for the version of the disease that effects the skin. Meanwhile, new evidence has emerged of links between the cases. Tests have shown that strains of the bacterium sent to media outlets in New York and Florida and the Senate in Washington appear to be identical.
The United States Head of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, said that the particular strain of anthrax had not come through a source that turned the bacterium into a weapon.
