The United States Attorney General has said that the threat of a chemical or biological attack is a real one. John Ashcroft admitted that the FBI had no clear indication of when or where such a strike might happen.
More than 4,000 crop dusting planes across America have been grounded. Mr Ashcroft said that they had taken this measure after one of the suicide hijackers had taken an "unhealthy interest" in the planes capabilities.
The head of the World Health Organisation said yesterday that governments should prepare for possible attacks with biological or chemical weapons. Dr Gro Harlem made the comments at a meeting of health ministers in Washington.
WHO Executive Director, David Nabarro, said that the organisation was not a case of scaremongering.
