Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres has met with senior Palestinian officials as part of preparations for a meeting with the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Ariel Sharon has said an Arafat-Peres meeting can only go ahead after 48 hours of absolute calm. The Israeli Prime Minister's condition has yet to be fulfilled, despite a ceasefire declaration on Tuesday by both sides.
Israeli television has reported that Mr Arafat telephoned Mr Peres to assure him that the assailants who killed a Jewish settler woman would be arrested.
