Finnegan ruling postponed until tomorrow

The Chairman of the Flood Tribunal has postponed a ruling on evidence concerning the auctioneer John Finnegan until tomorrow morning.

Following legal argument from Mr Finnegan's lawyers this morning, Mr Justice Feargus Flood said he would need more time to consider the matter.

Earlier, lawyers for Mr Finnegan had requested a withdrawal of "scurrilous allegations" made against him during questioning at the Tribunal. Proceedings had been adjourned for a number of hours following legal argument over the past two days on this matter.

Mr Finnegan's lawyers said the Tribunal had no right to investigate his conduct as an auctioneer. They said he had been subjected to unfair allegations of bribery and conflict of interest.

Tribunal lawyers claim they have a right to investigate his involvement in six land deals with the builders Brennan and McGowan.
