The Ulster Unionist leader met the DUP leader for talks over breakfast in Belfast this morning. DUP sources said that David Trimble and the Reverend Ian Paisley would meet again next Friday.
Neither Mr Trimble nor Dr Paisley issued a statement after the meeting. One of the issues they were expected to touch on during the meeting was their response to the British government's implementation plan on policing.
Both parties have so far refused to nominate members to the Policing Board. The Sinn Féin chairman, Mitchel McLaughlin, has meanwhile claimed the Ulster Unionists are aiming to dismantle the policing proposals.
