Cognotec to lay off 30 jobs in Dublin

The financial software company, Cognotec, is to cut 50 jobs, 30 of which will be lost in Dublin. The company laid 20 people off earlier this year.

This will bring the total number employed by the company to under 150. The company's Chief Executive told staff that he had hoped to have 100 banks live on Cognotec's foreign exchange dealing platform by this summer.

However, Brian Maccaba said that it had fallen short of this target and now had to readjust costs to reflect this.

Meanwhile, the Tubex company, which has three plants at Nenagh in County Tipperary, is closing one of them with the loss of 30 jobs.

The company, which manufactures plastic and aluminium tubing for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic business, is closing the plant at the Lisbunny industrial estate.

They hope to relocate the 30 workers to their plants at Portroe and Gorlandroe, which together employ 82 people.
