SF to hold talks with British government

Sinn Féin is to meet the British government tomorrow in an attempt to restart the talks process aimed at resolving the outstanding peace issues. Policing, decommissioning, demilitarisation and the stability of the political institutions are expected to be discussed.

Party chairman, Mitchel McLaughlin, said that the British government had "sat on their hands and had organised no meetings" since the suspension 17 days ago. Both the Assembly and the Executive were suspended in a move aimed at creating a six-week period for further progress.

Mr McLaughlin added that tomorrow's meeting was at Sinn Féin's request. They expect to discuss areas that they believe the revised implementation plan on policing fails to bridge the gap to the Patten Commission proposals.
