An investigation has been opened into the cause of a hot air balloon crash in France today. Six people were killed in the accident which happened in the French Alps, between the towns of Clery and Verrens-Arvey,.
It is thought that the balloon burst into flames after hitting a high-voltage wire while trying to land. The wife of the pilot, Roger Fugier, was following the flight by car when the accident occurred.
The five passengers were on their first flight. They included a couple from the nearby town of Albertville and their 21-year-old daughter. A man from Ugine and his mother were also aboard.
