At least 40 people have been killed and 43 are missing in flooding in northern Thailand. Police say that flood waters swept through three villages, submerging dozens of houses and causing mudslides. The region is in its rainy season and has also been hit by a typhoon.
Authorities said that flood waters and mudslides from Khor mountain hit seven villages in a valley below following a week of heavy rain. Approximately 50 houses were destroyed and officials are beginning to organise relief operations to help villagers.
