Demonstrators in Argentina have set up roadblocks in the capital, Buenos Aires, and other major cities. They are protesting against the government's austerity measures to deal with the country's economic crisis.
Government workers were on strike yesterday, and teachers are due to take action today. President De La Rua announced his belt-tightening programme last month. It includes cuts in government salaries and pensions to try to balance Argentina's budget.
The IMF is to decide whether to release a further $6bn in credits to help it meet payments on its $128bn foreign debt. The debt threatens to bankrupt the country following three years of recession.
