Eircom employee trust members have voted by a large majority to support the Valentia offer for the company. The Tony O'Reilly-led consortium's offer is lower than the Denis O'Brien eIsland bid recommended by the board. The trust's support is key to any offer going through.
Earlier today, the chairman of the employee trust clashed with Denis O'Brien over the latest eIsland bid. Con Scanlan said on RTÉ Radio that there had been a number of "spins" on what eIsland was proposing. Mr Scanlan also said that he was concerned that the offer gave no contractual certainty to the employee trust. The eIsland chairman said, in response, that this was "a red herring".
