Fire disrupts DART services

Services on the Dublin DART system will continue to be curtailed for the rest of today because of damage caused by a fire at a maintenance depot. Iarnród Éireann has said that trains on both the northbound and southbound lines are running only once every half an hour. The normal Sunday service is set to resume tomorrow. Iarnród Éireann said that they hope to have a full timetable on Monday, but warned that some trains might run on lower capacities than usual.

Four carriages were destroyed by a fire which broke out early today at the depot in Fairview. Two carriages were badly damaged and 24 carriages sustained smoke damage. At one stage, twelve units of the Dublin Fire Brigade were dealing with the outbreak. Two people were rescued from the burning building and were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
