An Post has warned that an increase in postal charges can no longer be avoided because of serious losses. The Chairman of An Post, Stephen O'Connor, said that approval for an increase in international postal rates had already been sought from the postal regulator. He told the An Post Annual General Meeting that the company had not had a letter price increase since 1991. An Post reported an overall profit of £35m last year, most of which was accounted for by a windfall profit from the sale of its shareholding in Esat Telecom.
