The National Day of Commemoration to honour all Irish men and women who died in past wars or in service with the United Nations was held in Dublin today. It was a multi-denominational service with leaders of all the main churches taking part at the ceremony at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.

The President laid a wreath on behalf of the people of Ireland and the ceremony was attended by the Taoiseach and representatives of the Government, Council of State, the Diplomatic Corps and the Dáil and Seanad. Relatives of 1916 leaders and next of kin of those who died on UN service were also among those at the ceremony.
