Israel has demanded an uncensored viewing of a video made by UN peacekeepers in Lebanon. Israel says the video may shed light on the abduction of three Israeli soldiers by Hizbollah guerrillas. The 30-minute video was made the day after Hizbollah guerrillas abducted the men. The UN, which originally denied having the tape, said that it would blur the faces of non-UN personnel and allow Lebanese representatives, as well as Israeli officials, to view the footage.
Elsewhere, a Palestinian court sentenced a 21-year-old Palestinian man today to life in prison with hard labour for collaborating with Israel. Thaer Walid Jaber was convicted by a three-judge panel for giving Israeli security officials information which helped them locate the car of a Palestinian intelligence officer hit by an Israeli helicopter gunship on May 12.
Two people were killed in the attack in the West Bank town of Jenin. The intelligence officer was lightly hurt. The attack was one of a spate of Israeli attempts to kill Palestinian activists suspected of carrying out attacks against Israelis. Palestinians in the courtroom complained the sentence was too light and shouted for the judges to sentence Jaber to death.
"A traitor should be killed," they shouted. "This is unfair". Two Palestinians have been executed by firing squads for collaborating with Israel since a Palestinian uprising erupted in September after peace talks deadlocked.
