US soft drinks manufacturer, PepsiCo, has announced plans to build a second concentrate manufacturing facility in Cork. The company has agreed to acquire land from Cork County Council's landbank at Kilnagleary, Carrigaline, just off the Crosshaven Road, where a number of light industrial units are already located and which has been earmarked for inward investment.
In a statement, the company said that its Concentrate Group Worldwide is considering an investment of up to $150m in a new facility at Carrigaline. The facility will supplement the existing Europe/Asia concentrate operations, located at Little Island County Cork for the past 27 years, which employ 160 people.
Later today, Cork County Council is expected to approve the sale of the land to the company. The Carrigaline plant will employ 250 at peak production and will not affect the operation of the existing facility at Little Island.
Final approval of the investment by the board of PepsiCo, along with Cabinet approval of an IDA grant-aid package, is expected in the coming weeks. But industry sources say that the project is certain to go ahead.
