An opinion poll in Britain has shown a sharp drop in support for the Labour party. It is the final day of campaigning in the British general election. The ICM survey for The Guardian newspaper suggests the Conservatives have cut Labour's lead to eleven points from 19 a week ago. The figures suggest Labour is still on course for a big win in the election.
Meanwhile, the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and the Conservative Party leader, William Hague, have issued impassioned appeals to their supporters to turn out and vote in the elections. Mr Blair used his last news conference of the campaign to warn that the country faced the prospect of waking up to a Conservative government on Friday morning unless people cast their votes for Labour tomorrow.
Mr Hague, in a set-piece speech to supporters in London, urged the forces of conservatism, famously reviled by Mr Blair, to rise up and sweep the Tories back to power.
