The United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, has called for the creation of a global fund to reverse the spread of AIDS. Mr Annan said that the war against the disease would not be won unless far more money was spent providing comprehensive healthcare in developing countries. He was speaking at an African summit on ways of tackling AIDS and other infectious diseases in the Nigerian capital Abuja.
