Builders' Flood appearance postponed

Builders Brennan and McGowan will not come before the Flood Tribunal until next Tuesday. A third man, John Finnegan, who was the owner of a Guernsey based company, has also been summonsed before the Tribunal. He will be asked to give evidence about a £60,000 payment to Ray Burke in 1984. The payment came from a company owned by Tom Brennan, Joe McGowan and John Finnegan. Joe McGowan told the Tribunal last year that the donations were the proceeds of fund raising events. However, the Tribunal has established that the largest donation was borrowed money. The chairman adjourned the matter for a week this morning after hearing that records were being prepared by the witnesses.

Ray Burke is continuing his evidence on the Century module. His own lawyers are questioning him. Earlier, he was questioned by counsel for RTÉ on decisions he made as Minister for Communications. David Keane, BL, put it to Mr Burke there was never any documentary evidence of predatory pricing by RTÉ which had been a key factor in his decision to cap its advertising. Mr Burke said that it was a Government decision.
