Balkan leaders and senior European Union officials meet in the Macedonian capital, Skopje, later today to discuss ways to halt the continuing violence in the region, which is hampering economic recovery. In the run-up to the summit, growing support has emerged for Belgrade's moderation in the face of clashes in Kosovo and southern Serbia for which ethnic Albanians are largely held responsible. The summit brings together the leaders of Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Macedonia, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey and Romania. European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and the Commissioner for External Affairs, Chris Patten, will also attend the summit.
