Canadian Supreme Court rebukes death penalty

The Canadian Supreme Court has ruled that two men wanted for murder in the United States should be extradited only if prosecutors give assurances that they will not face the death penalty. The two Canadians have allegedly confessed to the murder of the parents and sister of one of them in Washington state. The 9-0 decision by the court in Ottawa is being seen as a major rebuke for the death penalty, which has been banned in Canada since 1976.
