The former US President Bill Clinton and his wife Senator Hillary Clinton have announced that they will pay back nearly £73,000 for gifts they received in their final year in the White House. The Clintons received a barrage of negative publicity after the outgoing US president announced shortly before leaving the White House that he was accepting the presents. £73,000 is slightly less than half the value of the gifts. In a statement, the Clintons said that the were making the payment to eliminate even the slightest question over the gifts.
