Aer Lingus management and staff talks end without deal

Talks between Aer Lingus management and IMPACT cabin crew representatives, over a strike scheduled to take place next Wednesday, have broken up with no plans for resumption. In a statement afterwards, Aer Lingus described IMPACT's demands as excessive and said that it would add an extra £3m to the cabin crew pay bill on top of the £5.7m cost of implementing the Labour Court recommendation. Meanwhile, SIPTU cabin crew members are to vote on industrial action on Monday.

British Midland ground staff at Dublin Airport, who staged a one-day strike yesterday, have said that they were willing to enter discussions with management. The dispute centres on a compensation package for staff, who are being transferred to another handling company. The ATGWU, which represents the ground handlers, said that its members plan to strike for two days on Sunday and Monday next if the matter is not resolved.
