Flood: Barry critical of media Tribunal coverage

The former Century Radio director, Oliver Barry, has said that media coverage of the Flood Tribunal has led to rumours of a second payment by him to the former Minister for Communications, Ray Burke. In a heated exchange with Tribunal lawyers Mr Barry said that it was time for him to stand up for himself. He denied ever paying Mr Burke any more than £35,000.

Tribunal lawyers said that no one had suggested a second payment to Ray Burke. Mr Barry said that the media only reported "the juicy bits" from the Tribunal and that there were now stories floating around of a second payment. The Tribunal is examining how Mr Barry recouped the Burke payment from Century's accounts. Last week Tribunal lawyers said that there is still £40,000 unexplained in the accounts. The Tribunal has been adjourned to allow Mr Barry's legal team to prepare submissions.
