The Cork steel manufacturing company, Irish Ispat, has confirmed that one of four canisters containing radioactive material has been missing since a fire destroyed a laboratory at the plant on Monday. However, the company says that the amount of material involved is minute. This was confirmed by the Radiological Protection Institute, which said that it did not expect there to be any health hazard. In a newspaper advertisement, the company says that the Institute has confirmed that the amount of material involved is less than that contained in a domestic smoke alarm.
