The Minister for Education, Michael Woods, has said that this year's Junior Cert and Leaving Cert exams will go ahead. Dr Woods told RTÉ news that he believed the exams could take place, despite the decision by the ASTI not to mark papers as part of their pay dispute. Dr Woods added, however, that it was conceivable that there could be some delays with results. He also said he noted that there had seen no request from the ASTI to the TUI to support its blacking of the exams. The ASTI President, Don McCluskey, said that he believed that the ASTI action would cause serious difficulties.
