Man in critical condition after Dundalk shooting

A 48-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital after a gun attack in Dundalk in County Louth. Gardaí believe the shooting may have been linked to an INLA feud. The man was in his home in the Afton Drive Estate when at least two men forced their way in and opened fire, hitting him in the chest and abdomen. Gardaí and ambulance personnel arrived within minutes and he was taken to the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk where he underwent emergency surgery. He remains in a critical condition.

Later in a follow up search, Gardaí found a shot gun and a sledge hammer in the vicinity of the victim’s house. The motive for the attack has not yet been established but Gardaí are investigating the possibility that it may be related to an INLA feud. That would bring to three the number of INLA-related shooting incidents in Dundalk within the past twelve months.
