It is reported that a letter has been found in the pocket of a dead sailor retrieved from the sunken Russian submarine, the Kursk. The letter indicates that at least 23 crew members did not die instantly. Russian officials have so far insisted that most of the 118 crew members died within two minutes of the explosions on board the nuclear-powered submarine in August.
However, the letter says that 23 men managed to gather together in a section of the submarine although they were unable to escape. Divers are continuing the operation to retrieve the bodies from the Kursk, lying under the Barents Sea. Four bodies have now been recovered.
