The Deputy Leader of the Ulster Unionist Party has survived an attempt to remove him as the party's candidate in the Strangford constituency at the next British general election. John Taylor, who has been MP for Strangford since 1983, was challenged last night by Jim Hamilton, a former constituency chairman. With less than a fortnight to go to a crucial meeting of the ruling Ulster Unionist Council, Mr Taylor said that the result was an important show of support for the party leadership.
