Aer Lingus cabin staff vote for strike action

1,400 Aer Lingus cabin staff have voted by nine-to-one this evening in favour of industrial action over pay. The type of action to be taken is expected to be decided over the next 24 hours. The company is already facing action by pilots, catering staff, baggage handlers and clerical staff in a widespread outbreak of industrial unrest at Dublin Airport.

Responding this evening to the vote by cabin staff, Aer Lingus said that while it broadly acknowledged that there were difficulties at the company with pay, any claims would be processed through the normal industrial relations channels. A spokesman said that the company accepted there were "legitimate claims from some staff groups", but added: "We cannot deal with these issues outside the agreed official procedures."
