A Spanish politician has been shot dead near the city of San Sebastian. Police identified the victim as 29-year-old former town councillor, Manuel Indiano Azaustre, of the ruling Popular Party. State radio said that he was shot several times by more than one gunman while working in his sweet shop in Zumarraga. The police said the attack bore the hallmarks of the Basque separatist group, ETA. He is the seventh person to die in violence linked to ETA since mid-July, and the twelfth since they called off their ceasefire last December.
