Some 50,000 Leaving Certificate students have received first round offers of college places this autumn, with a drop in the points requirements making it easier for them to get some of the most sought-after courses. It is estimated that four out of five applicants received at least one offer of a college place in today's post. The Galway based Central Applications Office, which allocates the places, has warned students that they must accept their offers by next Wednesday or they will automatically lose them.
This year, the points can also be accessed on the internet for the first time. The points requirements are also available on RTÉ's Aertel service.
