Aer Lingus has confirmed that it will make a decision within the next month whether or not to continue operating daily flights from Dublin to Galway and Kerry regional airports. The company has set up a task force to review several route operations, following its decision to cease using all 50-seater propeller aircraft in order to move to an all-jet fleet. It says that the larger jet aircraft could make it uneconomical for them to continue operating some existing regional and UK routes.
Earlier this year the Sligo to Dublin route was taken over by Aer Arann on a sub-contract basis from Aer Lingus. The contract for this route and the Kerry and Galway services are up for renewal in January. Aer Lingus says that it will make a decision on whether or not to tender for a renewal of these contracts, after its task force has finished its review.
