Iarnród Éireann rejects call to negotiate with ILDA

Iarnród Éireann says it regrets that nothing more positive came from today's ILDA meeting and that the breakaway drivers group is determined to continue with its action. The company says that nothing new has emerged, and as a result, its position remains unchanged.

The Irish Locomotive Drivers' Association this afternoon made a final plea to Iarnród Éireann to enter into discussions with it, in order to resolve the rail dispute which is now in its seventh week. At a meeting of its members in Dublin today, the Association also called on both the Tánaiste and the Minister for Public Enterprise to intervene in the dispute. Earlier, the ILDA rejected suggestions by Iarnród Éireann that up to 30 of its members have returned to work. They claim that only five members have returned to work since the rail dispute began.
