There is furious last-minute lobbying going on in Zurich in Switzerland, as four countries battle it out to win the right to stage the World Cup in 2006. Japan and Korea are to host the next tournament, and there has been frenzied lobbying for the right to host the finals of the year 2006. England, Germany, Brazil and South Africa were among the candidates.
Brazil has pulled out of the race. England received a poor technical report. Morocco is seen as a no-hoper, which leaves Germany and South Africa in the race. The Africans go into tomorrow's vote as clear favourites, saying it is time for the African continent to host the World Cup. Former President Nelson Mandela has been lobbying intensively in Zurich this week, in a bid to clinch the deal.
