A rebel at the wheel of a truck loaded with explosives killed several dozen Russian soldiers in a suicide attack in the breakaway Russian republic of Chechnya today, according to a Chechen leader. The attack allegedly occurred to the southwest of the capital Grozny. The informant said that the truck had crashed through several Russian checkpoints and drove up to a school building where Russian soldiers were stationed. There was no immediate official Russian confirmation of the report.
