Mexican voters head to the polls

Voters in Mexico head to the polls today to choose a new president. Hundreds of foreign observers, including former US President Jimmy Carter, are monitoring the elections to ensure a fair ballot. Final polls have shown that Francisco Labastida from the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party is running neck and neck with the centre right opposition candidate, Vicente Fox, who is a rancher with Irish connections. A victory for Mr Fox would mean an end to 71 years of one-party rule in Mexico.
