Attempted coup in Paraguay reported to have ended

Reports from Paraguay say an attempted coup d'état by members of the army has ended. It is understood that rebel soldiers surrounded the Congress building in the capital Asuncion early this morning. The soldiers were believed to be supporters of a former coup leader. At least one shot was fired. A Paraguayan military spokesman said that most of the army had remained loyal to the government and the rebels had surrendered.
