The Powers Irish Grand National has been won by Commanche Court, owned by the millionaire financier, Dermot Desmond, trained by Ted Walsh and ridden by his son Ruby at 16/1. It is the same father and son combination that won the English equivalent at Aintree a few weeks ago with Papillion, a unique double for the Co Kildare based partnership. They came home ahead of another millionaire owned horse when Dr A J F O'Reilly was second with Foxchapel King. Irish Light was third.
Earlier 'Ross Moff' confirmed his position as one of the leading novice hurdlers in Ireland with a smooth success at Fairyhouse today. Tony Martin's seven-year-old was dropped back to two miles for the Powers Gold Label Novice Hurdle after scoring impressively over an extended three miles at Aintree earlier this month. Sent straight into the lead by Paul Carberry, Ross Moff was never headed in a race which developed into a tactical battle.
