Aer Rianta has lost an appeal to An Bórd Pleanála against a development at Santry Woods in North Dublin. The development will include apartments and a hotel and public park in Santry Demesne, had been opposed by Aer Rianta on safety grounds.
Fingal County Council first granted permission for this large scale development at Santry Woods in August last year. Local residents had already objected. They wanted Santry Woods to be preserved as a one of the few remaining green spaces in the area. After the council granted planning permission Aer Rianta lodged an appeal with An Bórd Pleanála. That appeal was made on safety grounds. The company said the buildings would impinge on the red zone around the airport and interrupt the flight path of aircraft.
Today a spokesperson for Aer Rianta said that they would not be commenting in detail on the decision but repeated their objections to the scheme. Woodford Developments plan to build a 198 bedroomed hotel, along with apartments and an office block. There will also be provision for a 72-acre park and a linear park along Santry River which when completed will be handed over to Fingal County Council for public use.
