Unofficial strike action at Airmotive Lufthansa

Three hundred and fifty workers at Lufthansa Airmotive Ireland on the Naas Road have begun unofficial industrial action. SIPTU and the two craft unions say they have taken this action because of the company's decision to bring in contract workers without prior agreement. Tonight a spokesman for the company said contract workers were commonplace throughout the aviation industry and that this action is in breach of the existing union/company agreement.

Workers picketing the plant on the Naas Road claim the company is bringing in contract workers because long hours and low pay is driving away existing skilled labour. The secretary of the Group of Unions, Eamon Devoy said official strike notice will be served on the company next Friday.
