The United Nations Security Council has chosen a Swedish diplomat, Hans Blix, to head the new Arms Inspectorate for Iraq. The move followed objections by Russia, China and France to the man previously nominated for the post, Rolf Ekeus. The authorities in Baghdad have already signalled that they will not co-operate with Mr Blix.
