Shelbourne have a four point lead at the top of the Eircom league Premier Division after Bohemians were held to a scoreless draw by Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds tonight. There were four goals at Finn Park, all of them for the home side against Waterford United.
Shelbourne had extended their lead at the top to 5 points with a 3-0 win over Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park last night. On the scoresheet were Richie Baker, Paul Doolin and Dessie Baker. 3-0 was a most popular scoreline as champions St. Patrick's Athletic defeated Galway United at Richmond Park and UCD overcame bottom of the table Drogheda United in Belfield. St Patrick's Athletic goals came from Marcus Hallows, Colin Hawkins and an own goal by Garret Gorman. Peter Hanrahan, Ciaran Martin and Brian Mooney were the UCD goalscorers.
In the First Division, table-toppers Longford Town beat St Francis 3-0 with two goals from Stephen Kelly and one from Keith O'Connor, while Athlone Town beat Home Farm Fingal by a single goal. Warren Parkes scored the only goal of the game one minute into the second half. Limerick FC and Kilkenny finished scoreless at Hogan Park. Kilkenny's David Walsh was sent off with ten minutes remaining.
