Naval vessels have arrested four Spanish fishing vessels. The LE Emer detained the Irish-registered vessel, Dursey, 15 miles north-west of Donegal Bay for alleged misrecording of its catch. The ship was escorted to Killybegs, where it was handed over to gardaí.
The LE Aoife detained two UK-registered boats 170 miles west of the Aran Islands. It is claimed that they did not have valid sea-fishing licences and had not recorded their fishing activity in Irish waters. The ships are being escorted to Castletownbere where they will be handed over to gardaí. They are due to arrive there early tomorrow morning.
A fourth vessel was also detained by the Navy this afternoon. Irish registered Spanish vessel, the Alimar, was detained by the LE Aoife about 100 miles west of Kerry Head. These actions bring to five the number of fishing vessels detained by the Naval Service so far this year.
