The computer company, Intel, has announced the provision of up to 600 jobs at its plant in Leixlip in County Kildare. The recruitment drive is part of a £500 million investment package to introduce the latest microprocessor technology. The American computer chip manufacturer already directly employs 4,300 people in Ireland.
Meanwhile shares in the US corporation are expected to race ahead after it reported strong results last night. Intel shares reached a record high of $91.25 yesterday in anticipation of the results. The results, which were ahead of analysts forecasts, showed record fourth quarter turnover of $8 billion. For the full year 1999, turnover amounted to $29.5 billion, up 12% on the previous year.
