The fourth Round of the FA Cup was on today with Sunderland against Tranmere at Prenton Park the most attractive tie of the day. Niall Quinn was unavailable with an ankle injury while Kevin Kilbane was cup tied. The tie ended 1-0 to Tranmere but not without controversy. Tranmere had Clint Hill sent off but manager John Aldridge brought on a substitute without taking another player off and Tranmere played the last minute with 11 men. The mishap was missed by the referee and the tie may yet have to be replayed as a result. The Football Association moved quickly to deal with the row announcing that the FA Challenge Cup committee will now meet on Monday to discuss the incident. Elsewhere, Aston Villa defeated Southampton 1-0, Coventry put 3 past Burnley, Everton beat Birmingham 2-0, Newcastle saw off Sheffield United 4-1 and Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with Wolves. In the other big shock Fulham were 3-0 winners against Wimbledon. The only Premiership game on was Bradford hosting Chelsea where the game ended 1-1.
There are four games on tonight in the second round of the FAI Cup. Derry City versus Bray Wanderers looks like it could be the most evenly matched. Elsewhere, Kilkenny City host Dundalk, Longford Town entertain Waterford, and Sligo Rovers take-on Bluebell United. The Finn Harps/ Home Farm Fingal game is off because Finn Park is unplayable. That game has been rescheduled to Tuesday night. Tomorrow's game between Swilly Rovers and Park Villa has been declared "on" after a pitch inspection this evening.
