The Fruit of the Loom clothing company in County Donegal says that workers due to be laid off will be paid their appropriate settlements, despite the company filing for bankruptcy protection in the United States. A spokesman for the company said today its operations in Donegal were performing well and it was "business as usual". Some 200 people are due to be laid off by the company next month, reducing the workforce to about 1,000. The bankruptcy protection applies only to the company's American plants.
